The international AWM Gracie Awards, dedicated to celebrating women’s exceptional achievements in media and entertainment, recently announced the winners of its 49th edition in 2024. Taipei Broadcasting Station’s program “Good Guoyue in Taipei” stood out among global hopefuls, securing victory in the “Non-English Program - [Radio - Local]” category. This prestigious recognition marks the first time a Taipei-themed program has been honored with a Gracie Award.

Established in 1975 by the Alliance for Women in Media (AWM), the Gracie Awards aims to highlight and recognize women’s creative contributions and remarkable accomplishments across various facets of the media and entertainment industries. It stands as a testament to promoting diversity and enhancing the influence of women in media worldwide. This year’s Gracie Awards winners were announced on March 28, featuring notable figures such as former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama and Nicole Kidman.

Taipei Broadcasting Station made its debut at the Gracie Awards this year. The winning entry, hosted by Mali Liu, was the program “Good Guoyue in Taipei,” which competed in the “Non-English Program - [Radio - Local]” category. The featured segment, titled “We Can Do It,” was specially produced in support of National Women Support Women Day. It showcased 11 renowned female composers from Taiwan and abroad, sharing their stories of overcoming obstacles and discovering their unique compositional styles, encouraging women to boldly pursue a fulfilling life.

According to Liu, “Empowering female composers has long been my mission. With “Good Guoyue in Taipei,” my goal is to spotlight the achievements and contributions of talented female music creators to a wider audience, hoping to make listeners aware of the efforts and achievements of women in music composition.”

Taipei Broadcasting Station Director Shao-Chien Hu highlighted that “Good Guoyue in Taipei,” a collaborative effort with the Taipei Chinese Orchestra, is helmed by Mali Liu, a seasoned musician and media personality. Liu, a multiple-time nominee and recipient of the Golden Bell Awards for “Non-Pop Music Program” and “Non-Pop Music Program Host,” has dedicated her professional career to promoting Taiwan on the global stage through music. The award-winning segment “We Can Do It” engages listeners on gender issues through music, exemplifying TBS’s advocacy on social issues.

TBS added that “Good Guoyue in Taipei” has been renamed “Wonder in Sizhu” this year (2024) and airs every Sunday at 10 PM. With the mission of “Sharing Taipei, Marketing Taipei,” TBS continues to address social issues such as gender equality and ethnic diversity through diverse programming.
