TBS’s “Mapolong Kita” Listener Meetup: Registration Opens on August 12

Get ready for a special listener gathering celebrating Indigenous culture! Taipei Broadcasting Station (TBS) will host the “Mapolong Kita” event on September 7 at 2:00 PM in the station’s 4th-floor auditorium. The event will be co-hosted by program hosts Li Ming-Te, Cihek Dongi, Caciu, and Wu Sai, and will feature traditional songs and dances, along with performances by indigenous bands combining modern instruments, unique nose flute music, and a fun Q&A session with prizes. Listeners are invited to experience the vibrancy and charm of indigenous culture. Spaces are limited, with online registration opening on August 12.

According to TBS, the theme of this listener meetup is centered around indigenous culture. The event’s name, “Mapolong Kita,” is derived from the Amis words “Mapolong,” meaning “gather together,” and “Kita,” meaning “we” or “everyone,” symbolizing the idea of “Gathering Together.” The event will be hosted by Golden Bell Award-winning hosts Caciu, Cihek Dongi, veteran host Wu Sai, and folk music icon Li Ming-Te. They will lead the audience through a multi-sensory experience, featuring performances by Paiwan nose flute master Paljaljim Valengelan, the Sawali Music Band, and youth from the Fata’an Youth and Cultural Development Association in Hualien County, showcasing the rich diversity of Indigenous music. Li Ming-Te will also perform traditional indigenous songs and well-known folk songs, accompanied by his guitar.

TBS Station Director Shao-Chien Hu noted that TBS is committed to promoting cultural diversity. In addition to its dedicated indigenous channel, AM1134, which caters to various listener needs, the station produces high-quality Indigenous programs such as Taipei Indigenous Life, Masakayingay a ina, Aboriginal Taipei, Welcome to Wasal, and Reading in Forest. These programs explore the stories, folklore, and literary creations of indigenous peoples, resonating deeply with listeners. Holding the “Mapolong Kita” event is not just about cultural exchange, but an opportunity for attendees to profoundly experience and appreciate the beauty of Taiwan’s Indigenous cultures.

TBS added that registration for “Mapolong Kita” will be open from 12:00 PM on August 12, 2024 to 5:00 PM on August 28, 2024. The event is limited to 120 participants, and registration will close once capacity is reached.
