This year, the station was honored with the 50th Gracie Award (2025) from the Alliance for Women in Media (AWM) in the category of “Non-English Program – [Radio, Nationally Syndicated Non-Commercial].” In addition, it earned an Excellence Award in the 5th Journalist Impact Award organized by the Hondao Senior Citizen’s Welfare Foundation, in the category of “Radio and Online Audio — Feature Reporting.” Together, these achievements demonstrate the quality and social impact of Taipei’s public broadcasting service.

Deputy Mayor Lee noted that the two winning programs reflect both global and local commitments: one amplifies international women’s voices, while the other shines a light on the lives of visually impaired seniors living alone in Taipei, with both embodying a strong sense of social responsibility and humanistic concern. He further praised the professionalism and dedication of the hosts, whose storytelling brings overlooked corners of the city into focus, inspiring empathy and allowing audiences to experience the warmth, resilience, and inclusivity of Taipei. He encouraged the station to continue innovating and producing impactful, high-quality programming to be enjoyed by all.

TBS Director Shao-Chien Hu also remarked that as the city’s key municipal media platform, the station has long prioritized issues affecting vulnerable groups, including older adults, people with disabilities, and children. Through professional reporting and cross-sector collaboration, the station seeks to deliver programming that is not only informative but also infused with empathy — making radio a close and trusted companion in daily life.

Host, Mali Liu, who has now twice received the prestigious Gracie Awards from the AWM, has long dedicated her work to highlighting the voices of women composers and related issues. She firmly believes that the true value of media lies not in chasing ratings or clicks, but in upholding the artistic integrity that forms the foundation of quality music programming. Her award-winning program Thousand Miles, Talks About Music began airing this year (2025) on Malaysia’s “CITYPlus FM,” using music as a medium to engage listeners with global issues and further demonstrating TBS’s growing international reach.

TBS host Ryan Huang, recipient of the “Journalist Impact Award — Feature Reporting,” explained that his program Glimmer Taipei was founded on the idea of “shedding light on diversity.” Each episode gives voice to communities that are often overlooked, weaving together interviews, documentary storytelling, and gentle narration to not only raise awareness but also foster empathy, strengthen community support systems, and provide insights for building a more age-friendly city.

These award-winning programs continue to air on TBS at FM93.1 and AM1134. Listeners can also tune in to enjoy Thousand Miles, Talks About Music and Glimmer Taipei, along with a wide array of other quality programming on the “T Radio” online radio platform (https://tradio.gov.taipei). This prestigious recognition underscores Taipei’s cultural influence and highlights its growing soft power.

Established in 1975 by the Alliance for Women in Media (AWM), the Gracie Awards honor outstanding achievements by women in media and entertainment. This year’s winners include acclaimed actress Kathy Bates and Cristin Milioti, and rapper Megan Thee Stallion. The star-studded ceremony was hosted by writer and comedian Fortune Feimster.

Following last year’s (2024) win in the “Non-English Program – [Radio-Local]” category with Good Guoyue in Taipei, TBS raised the bar by entering the “[Radio, Nationally Syndicated Non-Commercial]” category. With Thousand Miles, Talks About Music, the station clinched another international award, further affirming the station’s excellence in content production. The award-winning program is hosted and produced by Mali Liu, a professional musician and media expert who has been recognized with four Golden Bell Awards for excellence in broadcasting. The program itself was also the recipient of the 59th Golden Bell Awards for “Best Arts and Culture Program” in 2024.

Long committed to showcasing the work of women composers and raising awareness of gender-related topics in the music world, Liu described her path as “a lonely journey, yet one bound by serendipity and shared purpose.” She believes the value of media lies not solely in ratings or clicks, but in the artistic substance that forms the foundation of a meaningful music program. Thousand Miles, Talks About Music is known for its meticulously crafted content, which includes in-depth interviews, music features, simultaneous interpretation, and even micro radio dramas. Each episode is the product of intensive research and thoughtful curation, delivering a rich and intellectually rewarding listening experience.

Liu shared that the award-winning segment “Music Is a Weapon” took over seven months to prepare and produce. Specially created to commemorate National Women Support Women Day on December 1, the feature aimed to convey the stories and artistic voices of eight Ukrainian women composers in a way that was coherent and deeply resonant—not just a string of soundbites, but a narrative that captured their strength, context, and creativity. “Art, in its essence, is the gentlest yet most powerful call for peace,” Liu emphasized. One of the greatest challenges was the linguistic complexity of the interviews. Notably, an interview with Dr. Karmella Tsepkolenko was conducted in Ukrainian, requiring both English and Chinese translation before it could be shared with audiences—a meticulous and demanding process that exemplifies the program’s commitment to integrity and depth.

Deputy Station Director Pei-Wei Lee, who traveled to the United States to accept the award on behalf of the team, remarked: “Since its debut in 2023, Thousand Miles, Talks About Music has featured inspiring life stories and contributions of musicians from around the globe now based in Taiwan. The program has become a window connecting Taipei to the world.” The award-winning program is also syndicated internationally through “CITYPlus FM” in Malaysia, using the power of music to guide listeners through global issues, demonstrating TBS’s growing connection with global audiences and its continued efforts in arts and cultural outreach. TBS remains committed to stepping onto the international stage and showcasing Taipei to the world.

Thousand Miles, Talks About Music airs every Saturday at 10 PM. Taipei Broadcasting Station (TBS) will host the “Mapolong Kita” event on September 7 at 2:00 PM in the station’s 4th-floor auditorium. The event will be co-hosted by program hosts Li Ming-Te, Cihek Dongi, Caciu, and Wu Sai, and will feature traditional songs and dances, along with performances by indigenous bands combining modern instruments, unique nose flute music, and a fun Q&A session with prizes. The event’s name, “Mapolong Kita,” is derived from the Amis words “Mapolong,” meaning “gather together,” and “Kita,” meaning “we” or “everyone,” symbolizing the idea of “Gathering Together.” The event will be hosted by Golden Bell Award-winning hosts Caciu, Cihek Dongi, veteran host Wu Sai, and folk music icon Li Ming-Te. TBS Honored with Two Major Awards: Mayor Chiang Commends TBS’s Breakthrough Beyond Traditional Boundaries

Taipei Broadcasting Station (TBS) has recently garnered significant international recognition and presented the awards received to Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-An during today’s (16th) Municipal Administrative Meeting, establishing a new benchmark for public radio stations. The station’s program planning and production earned the Gracie Award at the 49th Annual Gracie Awards (2024) hosted by the Alliance for Women in Media (AWM). Additionally, TBS received a Silver Award in the “Interior Design” category at the 2024 London Design Awards presented by the International Awards Associate (IAA), recognizing the station for its advancements in broadcast technology and engineering. Notably, this marks the first time a Taiwanese team has won a Gracie Award, highlighting Taipei City’s commitment to gender equality.

Mayor Chiang praised TBS’s accomplishments, noting that the station has transcended beyond traditional radio boundaries and elevated its international profile. He expressed hope that the station would continue to enhance the diversity of its programming and broadcasting techniques, maintaining its social responsibility and cultural influence in the digital age, with the goal of delivering the warm and genuine voice of Taipei, fulfilling its mission as a public broadcaster.

Station Director Shao-Chien Hu emphasized that TBS plays a crucial role in the city’s public communication efforts. The station not only promotes municipal administrative matters and infrastructure development, reports critical news, and provides disaster prevention information, but also offers a wide range of programs tailored to different age groups and communities, delivering lifestyle information and popular music. Moving forward, the station will continue to enhance its broadcast quality, offering listeners the highest standard of auditory experience.

The Gracie Awards, established by the Alliance for Women in Media in 1975, honor outstanding achievements in media. This year’s honorees included former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama and actress Nicole Kidman. TBS’s Good Guoyue in Taipei hosted by Mali Liu, won in the “Non-English Program - [Radio - Local]” category, standing out among global competitors. This achievement marks the first time a Taiwanese team has been recognized, bringing Taipei into the international spotlight.

The London Design Awards, organized by the IAA, is a prestigious global event. TBS won the Silver Award in the “Interior Design” category for its “New Sound Era-Taipei Broadcasting Station Renovation Plan”, which uses fiber optic technology to achieve lossless audio transmission, modernizing and smartening its broadcasting equipment. The project also involved creating a high-standard, opera house-like studio, ensuring broadcast signal stability and clarity, and providing listeners with an exceptional auditory experience. This award showcases TBS’s commitment to technical innovation.

Additionally, starting this year (2024), Taipei Broadcasting Station has launched the “T Radio” internet radio platform (tradio.gov.taipei), allowing listeners to access a wide variety of programs aired on TBS over the past year, including the award-winning Good Guoyue in Taipei, which has been renamed Wonder in Sizhu this year, making it convenient for listeners to tune in. The program provides listeners with appropriate medication use and medication information and promotes the use of consultation services offered by hospital and community pharmacists. The segment also features dramatized scenarios based on real-life experiences shared by pharmacists, making the content more relatable and enhancing the sense of immediacy for the audience.

Host Wei-Hua Lin shared that the inspiration for creating the “Pharmacist at Home” segment stemmed from her personal interest in health and wellness as well as concerns about medication use. By presenting serious medical knowledge in an engaging, dramatized format, the program has helped clarify common misconceptions about medication, such as “the complexities of purchasing overseas medicines” and “the importance of proper medication administration in childcare settings”. The program not only educates listeners on vital health information but also helps reduce the misuse of medical resources in Taiwan, demonstrating the impactful role of radio.

Station Director Shao-Chien Hu emphasized that TBS not only provides timely news and disaster information for Taipei City but also offers a wide range of practical and diverse lifestyle knowledge to the public. These topics help listeners understand relevant policies and underscore the role of radio as a public service medium. TBS is committed to designing diverse programs that cater to all age groups and communities, continuing to deliver the warm and genuine voices of Taipei.

This award-winning program airs every Tuesday at 10 AM on FM93.1 and AM1134.
