  • Subject:Wanda Line Phase I and Xinyi Eastern Extension Stations Named
  • Content:

The naming of the stations on the MRT Wanda line Phase I (the Wanda line for short) and Xinyi eastern extension has been completed. The Wanda line has a total of nine stations, and the station names are Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, Taipei Botanical Garden, Xiaan Station, Jiala Station, Yonghe Station, Zhonghe Station, Shuang Ho Hospital Station, Zhonghe Senior High School Station, and Juguang Station. The one station on Xinyi eastern extension is named Guanci/Fengtian Temple Station.

The formalities of naming the stations were carried out by DORTS in accordance with “the Directions for Station Naming, Renaming or Agnaming of the Taipei Metropolitan MRT Systems.” In order to widely solicit the opinions of residents along the routes, DORTS issued letters to the district offices including Zhongzheng, Wanhua, and Xinyi in Taipei City, and Zhonghe and Yonghe in New Taipei City and the borough chiefs, public schools, and elected representatives were invited to attend consultation meetings. Then DORTS convened the “Review Panel for the Naming and Renaming or Agnaming of MRT Stations,” and following the results of meetings, the names were approved by Taipei City Government on July 6.

The Wanda line starts at Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Station on the Xindian line, and then runs west beneath Nanhai Road, Heping West Road, Xizang Road, and Wanda Road before crossing under the fruit & vegetable market and the Xindian River to reach Baoshun Road and Baosheng Road in New Taipei City. It then runs along Zhongshan Road, Liancheng Road, and ends at Jincheng Road. The line also includes a depot in the agricultural zone on the north side of Jincheng Road and a branch line station near Juguang Road. The route is 9.5 km long (with a 700 m branch line for the depot) and includes nine underground stations and one depot. In the future after construction is complete, passengers will be able to transfer to the Tamsui-Xinyi line, the Songshan-Xindian line, and the Circular line, and the line will alleviate travel times and costs in Wanhua, Yonghe, Zhonghe, and Tucheng districts while also increasing the convenience of riding and transferring for Taipei Metropolitan Area residents.

Xinyi eastern extension runs underground from Xinyi line's terminal station, Xiangshan Station, then runs eastward along Xinyi Road 6th Section, Fude Street, and Zhongpo South Road before ending at Yucheng Park. There is one underground station and a tail track totaling 1.42 km in length. Once completed, in addition to significantly increasing the efficiency of east-west transportation, it will also further develop the efficiency of the MRT system as a whole, provide high-quality and convenient transportation services, and improve the living functionality and quality in neighboring areas, and boost regional development.
